OXY’s Sending Love & Care to Children campaign is back, building on last year’s success! If you’ve been following our blog, you might remember our previous adventures at SK Sungai Judah on Pulau Carey, especially the heartfelt story Ivena shared in “The Farthest Event of All: A Journey to Gratitude.” This year, we’re thrilled to return with the same spirit, though this time it’s just my boss and I, as Ivena takes a well-deserved break.
Running on less than six hours of sleep (I blame the late-night Olympics cheering for our Malaysian athletes!), I managed to arrive on time after a scenic one-hour drive through some pitch-dark roads. Despite the early start, I was brimming with excitement as we gathered with students from four orang asli schools for an unforgettable mini sports day. This event marked the culmination of OXY’s Sending Love & Care to Children campaign, bringing together students from each school to celebrate and enjoy the day’s activities. With the invaluable support of the MyKasih Foundation and local school communities, the day promised to be filled with camaraderie, joy, and healthy competition!
The day truly brightened as students and teachers from three additional schools arrived, ready to take on the events. SK Sungai Judah’s field was a bit muddy from recent rains, but that didn’t dampen the students’ spirits! Laughter and cheers filled the air as they dashed across the field, competing with enthusiasm and pure joy. It was heartwarming to see their faces light up with every race.
The excitement peaked with a lively prize-giving ceremony, followed by a well-deserved, hearty lunch. I felt so grateful to witness the dedication of the teachers, who went above and beyond, bringing cold drinks to keep the kids hydrated and ensuring everyone had plenty to eat.
Though it was a long day for us grown-ups (especially the amazing teachers!), I imagine the kids drifted off to sleep on the bus ride home, with their prizes clutched close, dreaming of the fun they had and the memories they made. Days like these are reminders of how meaningful these small moments can be—and they make every bit of effort feel so
worthwhile.
